The Ultimate Backpacking Bucket List For Adventurous Women

2 min

There’s no better time to tick off your bucket list than when you are on a long backpacking trip. The world is absolutely full of spectacular places, awesome activities and amazing opportunities for adventure. So if you’re planning a big trip around the world, here are a few bucket list items you could tick off on the way.

Bungee jump in New Zealand

Defy gravity and get the ultimate adrenaline rush by jumping off a massive ledge strapped to a bungee cord. The Nevis bungee is the highest in New Zealand and involves an 8.5 second drop over 134m. Put simply, it is THE bungee jump to do. And, whilst you’re there you can also try the giant 300m canyon swing too.

Of course, New Zealand is the home of all sorts of other crazy adrenaline fuelled activities. Whether it’s skydiving, jet-boating, canyoning, mountain biking or anything else you can think of, you can do it with aplomb from Queenstown, New Zealand.

Hike the highest mountains

Climbing mountains is an absolutely fabulous way to see the world (sometimes quite literally). Cut off from society and left to fend for yourself in the great outdoors, it’s the perfect opportunity for adventure-seekers to test their stamina and push themselves to the limit.

There are some big and famous mountains like Kilimanjaro, Everest (Base Camp) and Aconcagua that are non-technical and generally achievable for the reasonably fit. But of course, these will cost a decent amount of cash. Or, if you want to get the multi-day hiking experience with a smaller financial and physical commitment, there are endless options for you across the globe.

From the W Trek in Patagonia to the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu in Peru, the Andes alone provide thousands of fabulous treks to try in South America. In Europe, you can explore several countries and cultures via the Alps, climb to the top of Scotland with Ben Nevis or tackle one of the highest mountains in Europe with Mount Olympus in Greece. Then of course there’s mount Fuji in Japan, a plethora of options in the Himalayas and an enormous amounts of beauty to cover in North America too. Whichever continent you choose to travel on, there’s a marvellous mountain experience awaiting!

Learn to surf

For many of us, surfing one of those things we always plan to try but never actually do which makes it a perfect backpacking bucket list item. Conquering a new skill is a great way to boost your confidence. Whether it’s by joining women’s surf camps in Australia or hiring a surfboard for a day in Hawaii, learning to surf will make you feel strong and accomplished. And as an added plus, it’s a great way to stay cool in hot climates as well as an opportunity to strengthen your core and tone up your arms!

Kayak through the Grand Canyon

What better way to take in the majesty of the Grand Canyon than by kayaking right through it? Of course, if kayaking is your thing, there are several other places where you can enjoy a one or multi-day kayaking adventure. From the Ardèche River in the south of France to the white waters of the Colorado River, there are so many areas to explore. Or for some sea kayaking, why not try the Kenai Fjords National Park in Alaska, the Galapagos National Park or Halong Bay in Vietnam?

Conclusion

A long backpacking trip is the perfect opportunity to tick off some major bucket list items. Whether it’s water sports like kayaking and surfing, physical challenges like mountain climbing or the pure adrenaline rush from crazy antics like jumping out of planes, now is your chance to just do it. So get planning and take the world by storm!
