How to Make Your Bedroom the Perfect Luxury Retreat

3 min

Your bedroom functions as your refuge from the rest of the world. It’s your safe haven, your own personal retreat. If it doesn’t feel like one, perhaps it’s time to make some changes! And guess what? It’s not that difficult. It’s not even hard. It just takes some pointed research, creativity, and time.

Start with the Lighting

Lighting is everything. Now read that again. Has it cemented yet? Good. Don’t consider lighting as a function, regard it as you would the style of furniture, color palette, and tone you choose for your bedroom. Good lighting not only improves the general aesthetic of the room, but it can create an atmosphere that is comforting, calming, and peaceful.

Ideally, your room is positioned to welcome natural light. If it’s not, be sure to understand the different types of lighting you can utilize to turn your room into a luxury retreat:

  • Ambient – This is the general lighting that fills up a room. It’s often recessed or wall-mounted lamps.
  • Accent – These lights are used to create a focal point on a feature in the room, like a centerpiece or an art installation.
  • Task – Task lights are meant to help you read or work. Typically, these are your bedside sconces or table lamps.

Better yet, technology like a Philips Hue smart light system has optimized the protocol we use for lighting. Integrating this type of tech will allow you to control everything from your mobile device and adjust multiple dynamics that would’ve previously taken an army of handymen.

Select Your Perfect Color Palette

Maybe the current color palette isn’t speaking to you. Thankfully, repainting the walls alone can make a massive difference. Perhaps it’ll inspire you to change your duvet, bedding, and even repurpose your furniture to match the new color scheme. Whatever you do, be sure to paint your room a color that’s calming and cathartic.

What makes a luxury retreat special? It’s the comfort. The getaway nature of the experience. A luxury bedroom doesn’t mean dark red walls and a gold-embroidered crown molding. Or, perhaps it does? The choice is yours. Whatever color palette you choose, just ensure it speaks to you.

Lay in Luxury Sheets

While it may be the last thing on your luxury retreat revamp list, the sheets you’re going to sleep in should directly corelate with how you want your room to look. They’re what you’re going to dive into once you finish your nightly bedtime routine and you want to end everyday on the best note. Consider purchasing luxury bed sheets with a high thread count to complement your bedroom revamp. You’ll thank yourself every single night.

The Greens, The Greens!

An easy change that reeks luxury is fresh flowers. It’s remarkable what a soft bouquet of roses can do to a living room, or how sunflowers on a bedside table can make the wood smile. While they aren’t always cheap, greenifying your room is a surefire way to make it feel like a retreat.

Consider adding low-pollen, non-allergic flowers such as:

  • Roses
  • Peonies
  • Hyacinth
  • Jasmine
  • Lavender
  • Lilies

Don’t Forget the Scents

Usually, we’re only aware of smells when they’re on the extreme ends of the spectrum. When something smells amazing, we’re quick to attention. When there’s a miasma in the garage, we make a sour face and rush to identify the source. But natural smells that come from candles, incense, and oils can be a wonderful way to spruce up your bedroom.

If you live somewhere that experiences the seasons, scented candles are an especially nice touch. Consider switching to the following candles per the season’s greetings:

  • Spring – Floral, citrus, fresh laundry
  • Summer – Jasmine, orange blossom, coconut
  • Fall – Pumpkin spice, cider, cinnamon
  • Winter – Cedar, firewood, sandalwood

With that being said, there’s an argument to be made that you can’t beat fresh air. Keep a window open during the day if you can and see if that makes a difference.

Transform Your Bedroom

Turning your room into a luxury retreat doesn’t require a full makeover. It’s all in the details. With a pointed effort, a few changes can have a big impact on your space. And, once you’re finished, you’ll find that the satisfaction and belonging you feel in your room improves the quality of your life. And that’s to say in all regards.
