Entrepreneurship is not learned by reading a book – Dylan Jacob

Countless numbers of books on the subject of entrepreneurship currently exist and even more are written, published and sold every year. But how useful can they really be to aspiring entrepreneurs? With increasing dissatisfaction in the job market, owning your own business and becoming your own boss can seem like an attractive route for many to pursue. This is evident by the abundance of start-ups that have appeared in recent years; however, statistics show that many of these new businesses don’t make it into their second year.

Young entrepreneur, Dylan Jacob, by the age of 24 had already started three very successful businesses; the first of which when he was still in high school. His most recent and successful venture to date, BrüMate, has seen multitudinous growth and has achieved an annual turnover of $35 million after just three years. Having been featured in ‘Forbes 30 under 30’ list twice and becoming a finalist in ‘Entrepreneur of the Year – 2019’, Dylan has certainly proven his entrepreneurial prowess, but he didn’t learn how to get to where he is now by reading a book.

The initial idea behind BrüMate came to Dylan out of the need to solve a common problem, that is; a cold beer losing its optimum drinking temperature over a short period of time. As Dylan says, he was “sick of walking away for 15 minutes and coming back to a half-drunk, semi-warm beer”. He identified a gap in the adult beverage market and came up with a simple yet effective solution, bringing about the wide range of drinkware products that BrüMate currently offers today.

Identifying a solution to a common problem, finding a gap in the market and setting up the required infrastructure to get your idea up and running are fundamental steps in creating any business. For Dylan Jacob, however, passion and dedication are the keys to success as an entrepreneur. It is immediately apparent anytime Dylan talks about his business that he is very passionate about it indeed. His belief in his initial concept is exemplified further by the fact that his empire is entirely self-funded, having started without seeking any funding from outside investors.

Dylan takes tremendous pride in the fact that he is so heavily involved with the design process of his company’s products and recognizes the importance of his customers, “customer feedback encourages us to design better products that are more functional and useful than what currently exists. Our aim is to recognize the gap in the market and develop products that address the needs of a wide range of customers.”

Perhaps one can learn a few tidbits of information from the plethora of resources available, but Dylan Jacob has demonstrated that by going out and following through with an idea you don’t have to pick up a book at all.

Dylan’s ambition knows no bounds and his constant desire to improve and grow BrüMate further goes to show that at the heart of a lasting and successful business, is a passionate entrepreneur. Dylan Jacob is the epitome of this. With his passion, drive and proven business acumen he certainly has an even brighter future ahead of him.
