Trip to Rishikesh

There is a poem by W.H. Davis called “Off By Heart” that poem kind of summarizes our entire generation. Do read it if and when you get the time. You will see what I mean here. I have worked for OnlineAssignmentWriting for years. I was so obsessed with getting ahead that it just consumed me to the point I didn’t have a personal life. For some, work I had to travel to Dehradun (India).

I finished my work at the office and headed for the airport. It had already been a long week. Just as luck would have it, I was seated next to a lady who was traveling with a toddler. It was cranky the entire flight. I couldn’t catch even a blink of sleep. So by the time I landed in India I have already been up for more than 30 hours. I was tired to the last bone. Next flight to my destination was two hours later.

While waiting I fell asleep and missed my flight. It was winter, due to fog they didn’t have next flight till next morning. I took a bus from Delhi to Dehradun. The bus wasn’t something I was used to. I fell asleep again on the bus. Because, at the airport, I didn’t sleep much, I was already tired from the work plus I was jet-lagged. I slept through the rocky, bumpy ride. I woke up after 8 hours. The bus had to make a stop. I asked if we have reached. The guy I asked wasn’t well versed with English. He said, Yes. I believed him and got down and started looking for a cab early in the morning. By the time I got to know I got out at the wrong place, the bus had already left.

Needless to say, I was mad as hell. Kicking the dirt, cursing my lungs out. I don’t know who I was more mad at. Me or the guy who said Yes. The people passing by were laughing at the sight of a grown man throwing a tantrum. I realized I was making a scene I had no intention of getting in trouble with the authority in a new country. I calmed down, took a few deep breaths and inquired about how I can reach Dehradun and how far was it.  While asking around I got to know I was at a beautiful little hill station which holds significant religious and spiritual value in India called “Rishikesh”. I’ve heard about this place. My destination was hardly 50-60 miles away and I had a good 10 hours left for the meeting. I decided to stay and check out the place for a while. Maybe have some tea and breakfast. I didn’t have anything since I left for India.

It was early in the morning. All I could hear was the roar of the beautiful Ganga and the chirping of the bird. I was just breathing it all in. I was at peace I don’t know after how long. Rather than going for a fancy hotel I decided to give a rather small roadside tea stall which was playing some local Indian music. I was sipping my tea and watching the sunrise. Turning the entire river orange with its light.

I started crying. It wasn’t because of any pain or anything. I was just happy and at peace. I took a dip in the river Ganga. Had my breakfast at another roadside stall.  Took a cab to Dehradun and finished my meeting successfully. I called my Boss up from Dehradun letting him know that meeting with our client at PaperDoers went well and I wish to take a little leave.  To my surprise, my boss granted my leave and playfully said that its good that I am acting human for a change.

I guess what I am trying to say here is take a little break every once in a while. Travel a little. Sometimes alone, sometimes with your loved ones. This life is too short and this world is too big and beautiful
