While this may not count as an official confirmation of anything, the UL retailer called “Zavvi” has added the upcoming game “Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeros” in their PC archive. This is a particularly strange move seeing as how the game is yet to be announced on PC by the developers let alone even being rumoured to be ported. Below is a screenshot I captured from the website as proof that this isn’t just another fake announcement rumour.
The newest entry into the Metal Gear Solid franchise was announced at the Metal Gear 25th Anniversary Event in Japan and since then we have been provided with a wonderful opening trailer and some rather nice seemingly open world game play. Could this be a change for the game that may see many fans unsettled? While some players may argue that the games have always been open ended, the fact of that matter is that they have always been to a certain extent, on rails forcing the player down the story, dropping “Boss” into a sandbox type world would drastically increase the need for stealth, it would also be the first game to feature both an open world themed dynamic alongside stealth elements.
The name is also something of an enigma. Ground Zero generally implies the impact zone of a catastrophe of varying degree, but is most commonly applied to explosions. Could this maybe a link to the Cuban Missle Crisis? Or is there another Metal Gear themed terrorist threat on the horizon?
Who knows what the future holds for our beloved war veteran. Only time will tell.
