Wouldn’t we all? Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has again been discussing prospects of the Wii U over on Kotaku, revealing that while he’s certainly in favour of the idea, there are no plans at the moment.
“Personally I would love for that to happen, but we have nothing to announce right now.”
On a related note, we were also recently disappointed by the denial of GBA games coming to 3DS any time soon.
While the original Wii enables GameCube discs and has controller and memory card ports, the Wii U will be removing this backwards compatibility, meaning downloadable GC games would be the only play to go.
Kotaku has also listed their top ten most wanted GC games for the Wii U. Kudos, Kotaku, kudos… but you’re missing Luigi’s Mansion, Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil Remake, Pikmin, Chibi Robo, and Starfox Adventures (screw the haters, I like it). Animal Crossing was one of my all-time favourites too, but there’ll undoubtedly be an advanced Wii U iteration as well as Wii’s City Folk. Same with Melee.
I was a big fan of the old purple box, even though it didn’t sell too well and receive much love back in the day. I certainly hope that the new Nintendo fans that missed out will get a chance to relive all the underrated gems the system had to offer via download. PS3 and 360 are already offering downloadable versions of their respective console predecessors, so Nintendo would be wise to join in too.
