When the 3DS XL was announced, many who expected a 3DS redesign with a second nub were sorely disappointed. It was also strange that, while the standard 3DS already had the Circle Pad Pro, the XL launched without one. Now nub lovers can rejoice, as we finally have the first image of the new Circle Pad Pro XL.

It appears to have a slightly sleeker design than the original, with a more curved edge on the right side. Considering the 3DS XL’s already mammoth size, this bulky attachment may completely remove any chance of it being considered “portable” though.

Now that the Circle Pad Pro is available on all 3DS models, hopefully we’ll see more publishers implementing support for the peripheral. So far, we have only really had Resident Evil: Revelations and Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater that utilise it.

Though not confirmed, we can likely expect it to bundle with Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate Edition, which has promised to support the Circle Pad. This is at least one game that may prove the peripheral to be a worthy purchase/use, as last year Capcom producer Ryozo Tsujimoto described it as a “a secret weapon which will allow you to play the game with the same feeling as playing Monster Hunter Tri on Wii”.

There’s also no word on a release date, but now we’ve seen that it exists we can assume it will be coming soon.

What do you think, readers? Excited and relieved? Or still frustrated that this wasn’t already a default in the XL’s design? Let us know in the comments.
