I know a lot of Kingdom Hearts fans are still waiting for the third official game in the series but at this point it might be faster for all the Kingdom Hearts fans to band together and make the game themselves. Because today Square Enix has announced another Kingdom Hearts game that is not Kingdom Hearts 3.

In 2013 Square Enix will release Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix for the PS3, which will contain the original Kingdom Hearts game, Kingdom Hearts RE: Chain of Memories, and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. However, only HD upgraded cut scenes from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days will be shown, the game itself will not be remade in HD. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix will include the “Final Mix” version of Kingdom Hearts that was released only in Japan.

I am assuming that the other two games will be playable and fully upgraded into HD quality, although Kotaku did ask a Square Enix representative if the games would be playable or a HD upgrade of the cut scenes and got no response. In other words, we still don’t know much about the game, other than what was in the press release.

For right now the game has only been announced as being released in Japan, there is no word on whether the game will make its’ way to North America and Europe. I would suspect it will be released in both North America and Europe because the Kingdom Hearts fan bases in both countries are huge.

The bigger question is why these three games, I would think that if this was going to be the only HD remake game for the Kingdom Hearts series Square Enix would have included Kingdom Hearts 2. But I suspect that there will be another HD remake for the series down the line that includes Kingdom Hearts 2, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

I would venture to guess that besides making money off these HD remakes, Square Enix wants to give access to the handheld Kingdom Hearts games so fans that may not own every handheld ever made can still follow the story. That way when they finally release Kingdom Hearts 3 for the PS4 in 2018 people will be better able to get caught up on the story.
