Gears of War creator and Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski recently held a Q&A on Reddit, answering all kinds of questions video game- and non-video game-related. One of the more interesting responses he shared was his love for Nintendo and a vague hint that he may develop for the Wii U in the future.
Being raised on All Things Nintendo I will always I love all things Nintendo. I’ll be watching the Wii U closely. I think Nintendo may have initially lost a little of their core with the Wii for a bit, honestly, and they seem to have realized this. I believe they also recognize that we live in a “multi-screen” culture hence the controller design. I played ZombiU at PAX and it was promising (even though the controls could use a little loving!) so we’ll have to wait and see.
Cliff has expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming console before, going as far to state that even Nintendo’s haters will give in to buying the system eventually.
Does this mean we’ll see Gears of War, Fortnite or perhaps a brand new IP on Nintendo systems in the future? It wouldn’t be completely difficult to imagine, as many third-party developers are already happily on board with developing for the Wii U and the console is already seeing its fair share of mature titles such as ZombiU, Black Ops 2, Bayonetta 2, Assassin’s Creed III and Darksiders II, among others.
