Unfortunately, as you are no doubt aware, Sony Liverpool (Formerly known as Psygnosis) was shut down earlier this year, and a great deal of gamers where left disheartened following the demise of the studio that brought us the hyper-fast paced Sci-Fi racing game, WipEout.
However, earlier today it came to the attention of the community that the death of the franchise, was actually rather exaggerated. Today, on the games dedicated Facebook page and Twitter feed, the statuses received an update, the update delivered the somewhat informative, if not frustratingly vague, ”WE. ARE. ALIVE.” message.
A couple of hours after that and WipEout 2048 Facebook page was updated with the message:
“Good afternoon Pilots
As you may be aware; Studio Liverpool shut its doors on the 22nd of August 2012.
It was a very sad day- the end of an era and will never be forgotten. While we wait for news on the future of WipEout, Online play will continue to be supported and there will be plenty of WipEout community events, giveaways and goodies to look forward to!
WipEout’s passion will live on – Together we are stronger and together we will keep WipEout alive.
WE ♥ WO!”
It goes without saying, that the fans of the series are pleased, some are down right jovial. But what is really interesting is where the game is going to be shipped to. Who is going to be behind the steering wheel now?(pun intended). But one thing that is sure, is that Sony clearly see the profit to be made with this series, and are unwilling to let something so popular die, it’s games like this that will breath new life into the PS Vita, especially if their is a cross play enabled counter part planned. All in all, I think today is a good day to be a pilot on the Null-G circuit.
