This week World of Warcraft players will have the opportunity to take part in Theramore’s Fall. This event allows players to do two things. One is to test out the new scenario system, a new feature in the upcoming Mists of Pandaria expansion, and to also set the stage lore-wise for the upcoming expansion.
Theramore’s Fall gives players on live servers their first chance to experience how scenarios will work. These instances our designed to have players work in groups to complete various tasks which differ greatly from what players are used to doing in regular dungeons. For example, in Theramore’s Fall, Horde players assist in the destruction of Theramore by destroying Alliance ships on the dock. This is a type of interactiveness that players are unable to feel in normal dungeons, where, for the most part, players just kill bosses. Having the instance be more interactive allows Blizzard to help share more lore then in a dungeon. These scenarios are also designed to be beatable with players of any specs. This means that the scenarios will be much easier to complete then a dungeon, allowing more players to see them, thus exposing them to more lore.
Lore is definitely the main component behind the new scenario feature, and this event attempts to set the stage for the upcoming Mists of Pandaria expansion. The Horde Warchief, Garrosh Hellscream, is infamous for being a ruthless and bloodthirsty leader. This is shown as he assaults Theramore Isle, home to Jaina Proudmore, a member the Alliance who has always been on good terms with the ex-Warchief, Thrall, and been an advocator of peace between the two warring factions of Azeroth. After this event, Jaina will most likely not be as willing to find peace with the Horde, thus escalating the tension between the factions right as Mists of Pandaria releases.
While playing this event, it is good to note that is just a taste of what will come in Mists of Pandaria. This was not created to be played over and over, rather to be played a few times to experience what is going on in the world right before Mists of Pandaria comes out next week.
