Destiny: Matchmaking for Weekly Heroics is a Positive Step

Destiny

So, Bungie has finally relented in some form. The Weekly Heroic Strikes for Destiny will soon have automatic matchmaking for the game. The Destiny community has been asking Bungie to incorporate this feature for a while, and it is finally happening. The change is only for Weekly Heroic Strike missions. In other words, Nightfall Strikes and Raids will not receive any type of matchmaking. The matchmaking for Weekly Heroic Strikes is part of the Update 1.1.1 download patch. The change for Weekly Heroic Strikes is a positive step toward the overall improvement of the Destiny gaming experience.

For starters, this at least shows that Destiny is willing to listen to the community’s feedback and change things based on that feedback. There have been quite a few tweaks to the game. The feature regarding the sale of resource materials by Tower vendors was added later. Optional Fireteam voice chatting was integrated into Destiny after launch. Matchmaking for the higher level and more difficult missions is something the community wants. Until I discovered a website like Destinylfg.net, organizing Fireteams for the more difficult missions was quite laborious. Destinylfg.net is really just a slower form of matchmaking. The website proves that only buddies who know each other and are familiar with each other’s gaming styles can play the Raids. The main requirement should simply be a Guardian with a certain light level. With the optional chat features, I do not see what the big problem is with incorporating matchmaking for the Raids and Nightfall missions.

Bungie could also streamline all this by simply making its own version of Destinylfg.net. The fact is that the Destiny game app and website are not very user friendly. At least, they are not as user friendly as Destinylfg.net. That website provides a very easy-to-use way to find a group or find a member for a Fireteam for difficult missions. That is why the news of matchmaking for Weekly Heroic Strikes is somewhat of a relief. Finally, Bungie is taking the middle man out of the equation and just has the game organize it for you.

It may not happen tomorrow or next month, but I believe that Destiny will eventually incorporate some type of matchmaking for Raids and Nightfall Strikes. The change for Weekly Heroic Strikes is proof enough of that. The Destiny 1.1.1 update patch is set to drop sometime this month. Destiny is currently available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
