Fans of the blue bomber are no doubt waiting, wishing, hoping for something big to come for Mega Man‘s 25th Anniversary. Its advised that you don’t get too excited as you tick closer and closer on your calendar, however, according to Capcom Unity’s Christian Svensson.

Svensson is Capcom Unity’s Corporate Officer and Senior Vice-President, who has posted the following in response to a discussion on what we can expect for Mega Man‘s 25th anniversary celebrations with the following statement on Capcom’s message board:

Thanks for being reasonable. In December “some but not all” plans for the coming year of celebrations will be shared. There are many moving parts and not everything will be done and final come December. No one has promised a game or even an announcement of one at that time. Please do keep expectations in check.

I’ll address the rest of the OP post this weekend when I have more time.

So from this we can gather that something is on its way – but its unlikely to blow the minds of the starving Mega Man players. We have already heard the announcement of Rockman Xover, which is planned to release on the anniversary, but a social iOS game really doesn’t do the hardcore roots of Mega Man justice. You would think Capcom would have something better to represent 25 years of one of their most beloved and long-running gaming franchises.

Fans are no strangers to disappointment in recent years, with cancellations of both Mega Man Universe and Mega Man Legends 3. Wise fans will already be controlling their expectations, although this response was likely aimed towards those who expect that the long wait has just meant something big is in development.

The last proper Mega Man game was Mega Man 10 back in 2010. I have no idea why Capcom are neglecting the franchise since there’s undoubtedly profit to be made with the amount of people begging, but I hope they completely disappoint the little guy on his birthday.
