Play Games & Heal Kids

2 min

For the last four years, the Charity organisation has been bringing together groups of gamers from all corners of the world, where they can unite in a 24 hour games marathon which runs in support of the “Childrens Miracle Network Hospitals.

The gamers themselves then rally together their friends and family who then either donate or sponsor the player to play for 24 hours, the funds that they manage to raise help towards the noble goal of both save and improve the lives of the kids at the CMN in their community.

The project started back in 2008, and since then the gamers who have taken part in it have managed to raise in excess of two million dollars.  And this year on the 20th of October the group aims to break all its previous records.

If your not going to take place in the even, then at least donate to the group. If you don’t want to then you don’t have to break the bank, just miss out on todays snack food, or don’t take that fancy coffee on your way to work, just donate 5 dollars and know you’ve done a good thing.

WHEN:  October 20, 2012 @ 8am (Or choose a date that works for your schedule)

WHERE:  Anywhere you like to game (Most people play from home!)

GAME/PLATFORM:  Play anygames on any platforms you want including mobile devices!

HOW IT WORKS:  Simply ask your friends and family to sponsor your efforts.  They can make a monthly pledge or a one-time gift.  Then, have a seat and play games on October 20th.

WHO IT BENEFITS:  Gamers select the children’s hospital they want to play for during registration.  In the US and Canada there are more than 170 CMN Hospitals to choose from.  Players may also choose to play for hospitals in the UK and Australia.

Thank you for stopping by, and thanks for a taking a few minutes to join our fight to save kids’ lives.

The organizers like to remind those who participate that the fund raiser is not region locked, and that regardless of where you are, you can take part. The Extra Life event begins at exactly 8AM October 2oth in your local time zone, so there is no need to stay awake into the early hours of the morning. The event ends the following morning on October 21st at 8AM. What’s more is, if you cannot make this time window fit into you schedule, then you can actually participate  at a later time that is more fitting to your lifestyle. Some participants even break the even up into blocks of time, or rotate through various gamers instead of doing it alone.

And if you’ve been wondering what kind of games you need to play in order to take place, it doesn’t matter. It can be anything from any genre, be it poker on your phone, or your favourite online console first person shooter, hell, even facebook games count.

If you don’t feel like going it alone, or a 24 hour stint of gaming seems a bit to daunting to you, then don’t fret. You can form a team that can consist of as many people as you like, this helps immensely as it will enable you to raise more money in the same space of time.

Although the organisers encourage the players to form teams so that you can raise more money, you can indeed sponsor yourself for as little as one dollar per hour.

Oh yes, don’t forget, any individual, or groups of players who can manage to raise over two hundred dollars will all receive a special T-shirt in the mail that will help you cement yourself amongst the elite of the fund raising community.

I wish the best of luck to all those who take place in the event, I’ve already donate my share, have you?
