Where is The Evil Within Story DLC?

2 min

Last December, Bethesda Softworks confirmed that there will be three pieces of story downloadable content released later this year for the hit survival horror video game, The Evil Within. The DLC content would follow the story of the supporting character, Juli Kidman. In the game, Kidman first appears as a junior detective and partner of protagonist Sebastian Castellanos and his other detective partner Joseph Oda. However, over the course of the game it became clear that Kidman is not all that she seems. She actually works for a shady organization behind some of the events of the game. Other than a vague promise of the DLC being released later this year, there has virtually been no other information on the DLC content. It is a bit disappointing that Bethesda Softworks has not had much information on the DLC content. After all the numerous plot holes and issues that were left by the original game, it would be nice to know more about the new DLC content, sooner rather than later.

The Juli Kidman story DLC is set to be released in three parts: The Assignment (Part I); The Consequence (Part II); and The Keeper (Part III). Bethesda Softworks announced that The Assignment is scheduled for an early 2015 release. Early 2015 should really mean first quarter. So, that covers January to March. January is nearly in the books, and there has been virtually nothing out there for The Assignment DLC release. It is nice to know there will be new content on the Juli Kidman character. In addition, Juli Kidman will be playable for the new story content. I am looking forward to getting some new perspective on The Evil Within story with Kidman. However, it feels like Bethesda is being too secretive about the DLC. Bethesda really ramped up the marketing for the game in advance of The Evil Within.  There has been very little information available for the three-part Kidman story DLC and The Assignment. I am not saying this means a delay is needed, but it is frustrating that Bethesda is being so secretive about the game.

The Evil Within is a strong, if flawed, title. The story seems to take many issues for granted and leaves a lot of loose threads with no promise that the issues will be resolved later. For starters, the game seems to have no interest in clarifying the fate of Joseph Oda. The game clearly implies that something happened to Leslie Withers and the psyche of the villain, Ruvik. The fates of the other supporting characters are revealed, except Joseph Oda. Sebastian Castellanos does not seem to show any interest or concern for his longtime friend and partner, which is a bit disappointing. These are the type of issues The Assignment and other Kidman DLC pieces must address.

The Evil Within: The Assignment DLC is due out early this year for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. The other DLC pieces, The Consequence and The Keeper, will be released later this year.
