Apparently the Ratchet and Clank Collection was not enough Ratchet and Clank action coming out this year, and I think anyone who has played those games will be alright with that. It was confirmed at the PAX Prime Ratchet and Clank 10th Anniversary panel that Ratchet: Deadlocked will also get a re-release later on this year on PSN. The Ratchet and Clank Collection, which was released this summer, was a collection of the first three games; Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal.
Ratchet: Deadlocked was an interesting title in the series, not following the standard platformer format and focusing more on action and shooting. While different from the rest of the games in the series, it was still very well-received and had some very fun multiplayer, which will hopefully make its return on the PSN re-release of the game. This is the next in the long line of classic titles from the PlayStation family of games re-released on the PS3, as it feels like they are continually releasing new titles on PSN or in HD collections for gamers to either re-experience these titles or discover them anew. It is a rather inexpensive way to produce more content and not many care to complain about it.
There have been some criticisms about Sony’s inability to launch new IPs on the PS3 that have the same sticking power as on their older systems, or even to release worthy additions to these series on the PS3. There have been a number of Ratchet and Clank titles for the PS3 so far, but none seem to have the same sticking power that the earlier games had. Hopefully the release of the Ratchet and Clank Collection, as well as Ratchet: Deadlocked gives these games some new wind in their sails and can help bump sales for this generation’s of games.
