New Bloodborne Visuals and Gameplay Footage Looks Insane

1 min

One of the game titles I was unable to check out at the Electronic Entetainment Expo this year was Bloodborne. However, the new videos released for the upcoming title from the 2014 Gamescom look incredibly promising. The visuals and scale of the gameplay look epic. As in The Order, the in-game video for Bloodborne resembles the fancy, high-end CG cinematics of previous years. Bloodborne appears to be an intense, dark and visually amazing RPG for the PlayStation 4.

The design style and the setting of the ancient city, Yharnam, look right up my alley. I love the intense, highly stylized Gothic architecture. The dark set pieces and fluidity and movement of the monsters and characters look amazing. Based on the design, the world of Bloodborne looks reminiscent of 18th or 19th century Europe. This is extended to the weaponry of the hunter character, who wields an enormous transforming ax and a massive blunderbuss shotgun. I like the familiar but exaggerated touches for the weaponry. Since Yharnam is a city that is steeped in madness, I wonder if this will affect the player at points in the game as well.

A snippet from the playable demo video from Gamescom provides a preview at the non-playable character. Like the main protagonist portrayed by the player, the NPC partner looks like some type of monster hunter in the strange, horrific and haunted land featured in Bloodborne. Judging from the gameplay, the game includes various interesting basic enemies infesting the city of Yharnam. The monsters look fierce, terrifying, vicious and deadly. The werewolf creatures will probably be among my favorite monsters for the game. One moment I especially enjoyed from the gameplay demo involved the insane madman in the wheelchair. The hunter walks by and the madman in a wheelchair attempts to blow the player away with a huge musket. The gigantic demon boss visuals toward the end look fantastic. I cannot wait to see what Hidetaka Miyazaki and the other developers at From Software have in mind for the other boss characters in the game.

Based on the new videos, the narrative and overall presentation of the story and gameplay seem quite reminiscent of Dark Souls. I imagine that fans of the Dark Souls franchise will feel right at home with this game and play style. This footage definitely makes me excited to play this game on the PlayStation 4. Bloodborne is scheduled for an exclusive release on the PlayStation 4 later in 2015.
