Deadly Premonition was one of the games that was so bad it was good, many reviewers missed the point with the game and scored it overly low (IGN gave it a 2.0). However, fans loved the game for its’ quirkiness and strange story; the game actually became a cult hit and sold a lot more copies than it was suppose to.
In an interview with Deadly Premonition designer Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro, he talked about what he would like to see in a Deadly Premonition sequel:
“I meet once a month with the producer of Deadly Premonition and we talk about various things,” he said. “There are things I’ve come up with the producer has said no to. I suggested Deadly Premonition 2 should be as though Deadly Premonition 1 had never existed. I wanted to do everything from scratch, but the producer said I couldn’t do that. So, for example, like with Spider-Man, you’ve got Spider-Man and the Amazing Spider-Man, so the same series but a different world. I wanted to do something like that but was told no. The producer said the fans love York, and so I have to carry on with him as the protagonist.”
Swery did say that his team at Access Games is working on a new project that will be announced by next summer, but he wouldn’t confirm that it was Deadly Premonition 2. However, he did confirm that they will be releasing a Deadly Premonition directors cut: ”We are planning a Director’s Cut of Deadly Premonition and there will be a proper announcement about that soon, I’ve been having a few meetings about that here as well.”
He went on to say they might include new fixes and additional scenes, but he can’t confirm what exactly will make it into the Directors Cut just yet. There will be an official announcement for the Directors Cut in the near future according to Swery.
I played through most of Deadly Premonition and I loved the story and the setup, the controls I was not to crazy about. There was one scene in particular where you had to run away from the killer and to run you had to keep hitting the weirdest button combination I have ever seen (it was pretty funny). I would definitely recommend playing this game with your friends because of all the laughs you can get out of it, hopefully they will announce that their next project is the sequel to Deadly Premonition.
