The Grand Theft Auto games have a long, storied history of mayhem involving the vehicles included, and it appears that Grand Theft Auto V will be no different. The first Grand Theft Auto game was simple at its core, but still allowed for some rather unique modes of transportation for the time. All of the basics were there in cars, trucks, busses, armored vehicles, tanks and even motorcycles. With a few tweaks within a text file and MS Paint you could change any vehicle into anything you wished, which was at the time pretty incredible.
As the series evolved, the vehicles available became more and more impressive, with GTA 3 really taking most of the locks off of your imagination with the move to 3D. There were a few omissions from GTA 3, though, most notably a distinct lack of motorcycles and airplanes. The move to 3D for the development team was difficult enough, and motorcycles simply were not on the agenda, and sadly airplanes were intended to be a part of the game, but in the final version the only airplane available was the oft-derided Dodo, with its short wingspan making it incredibly difficult to control.
Later installments to the GTA series went ahead and added in new vehicles, with motorcycles of many kinds appearing in GTA: Vice City as well as helicopters and the big additions of bicycles and planes in GTA: San Andreas. GTA IV went ahead and refined a lot of this and added in some realistic physics. This has left many guessing as to what would be available in the next installment of the series, GTA V. Today, Rockstar went ahead and released some screenshots without much of an explanation, and by the looks of it, we will see the return of the bicycle, some fancy sports cars and possibly even fighter jets.
