When the concept of being able to install games onto consoles to cut down on loading times, gamers’ were ecstatic. There’s nothing worse than being in the middle of an amazing boss fight only to have to endure a random loading point as the scenario for the fight changes, thus breaking up the intense action you were drawn into. One game that benefited from this installation ability was Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, though the developer didn’t quite utilize the technique in the best way. Rather than have one long install, the game installs each chapter individually, causing a rather lengthy and unwanted break in the action at the close of each scenario. While the placement of this installs were not a huge hindrance on the game, it was a break in a game that typically flowed so nicely from one segment to the next.

It’s been almost four years since the release of this Playstation 3 greatest hit, and Konami is finally responding to this known annoyance in the best way it can – by eliminating the separate installs and melding them into one process at the start of the game. While it may seem to be too little too late for many, this change comes attached with the previously announced trophy patch, which adds the much coveted trophies to the lengthy game.

Included in the list of obtainable trophies are:

BRONZE:

  • You enjoy all the killing, that’s why:

Killed many enemies in one area, and vomited.

  • Divine Wind:

Caused a “divine wind” using the Tanegashima.

  • Emotion Control:

Controlled an enemy soldier’s emotions using an Emotive Magazine.

  • That Tune Is His Mind Control Music:

SILVER:

  •  Can you feel my power now!!!?:

Took control of an enemy soldier’s body using the Mantis Doll or Sorrow Doll.

  • You’re pretty good:

Got kissed by Ocelot during the final battle.

  • Sounds of the Battlefield:

GOLD:

  • I am THE expert on weapons, equipment and cutting-edge technology:

Obtained all weapons (excluding weapons obtained via password)

PLATINUM:

  • The Legendary Hero:

Obtained all trophies.

While some may argue that Guns of the Patriots’ story and gameplay are reason enough to play through the powerhouse title, there are trophy hunters out there that play games solely with the intention to collect the most trophies possible. This patch will simply add the tale of Solid Snake to their list of must play titles.

Releasing the week of August 12th, the new trophies will surely test the patience of gamers everywhere. While they may not seem so difficult to attain, the gold trophy awarded by collecting all weapons is possible only if the game is beat under five hours on the hardest of difficulties with no alerts, no kills and no deaths. Oh, and you can’t use healing items, stealth camo, or bandanas. Anybody that’s already played through the fourth installment of the Metal Gear Solid series is well aware of how near-impossible this feat is.
