Ultra Street Fighter IV, the latest update of the highly successful Street Fighter IV, is going to include five new playable characters, among other things.
Four of the five characters have been revealed as soon as the game was announced, with the fifth one yet to be revealed. Capcom stated multiple times that this new character would be someone who has yet to be playable in the series.
According to some rumors, the fifth new character will be Retsu, a character taken from the original Street Fighter game. For those who have not played the game, only Ryu and Ken were playable in the game so Retsu would fit it in Capcom’s hint. Despite having only appeared in the original Street Fighter, he is quite relevant to the Street Fighter universe, being a friend of Ryu and Ken’s master Gouken.
The rumor started after Capcom released the artbook cover for Street Fighter 25th Anniversary. Depicted on the cover are all the playable characters of Street Fighter IV, including the four new characters already announced for Ultra Street Fighter IV, Helena, Hugo, Poison and Rolento. With Retsu appearing on the cover as well, it’s almost certain that he is the fifth playable character.
Capcom has yet to speak about the matter. We’ll keep you updated as soon as something new emerges on the matter.
Ultra Street Fighter IV will release later next year on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
