It seems Luigi’s jump may be higher in the next iterations of Super Smash Bros, according to series director Masahiro Sakurai and the screenshot he uploaded to the Super Smash Bros. website today.
The image sees the Mario brothers leaping in the air, with Luigi higher in the air than his older sibling. Now, the screenshot alone obviously isn’t proof that the character jumps higher when there’s the possibility could be a time and/or height difference in their jumps, but Sakurai comments on Miiverse that “his vertical leap is undoubtedly high!” With this in mind, it’s clear that he used both characters’ jumps to compare the extra leap distance.
It makes perfect sense, as Luigi has been known for his high jumps since Super Mario Bros. 2. We’ll have to wait and see if his air scuttle is accomplished by holding down the jump button, or if it is an attack itself.
Both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the yet-to-be-fully-titled new Super Smash Bros. game will release in 2014.
