Sony: The Last Guardian “is Still in Development”

Team ICO is one of the most respected video game developers in the world, mostly because of their work on ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. However, unfortunately Shadow of the Colossus was the last game that Team ICO has released, which launched way back in 2005 on the PS2. That is eight years between games and we have barely heard anything about their Last Guardian project.

The truth is many game people in the industry believe Last Guardian may never be released. Although today Sony gave some hope to fans of Team ICO, basically assuring people that the game is still in development. In an interview with Sony Worldwide Studio President Shuhei Yoshida, it is confirmed they are still working on the game but there are issues and no foreseeable release date.

President Shuhei Yoshida official statement:

“There are some technical issues being addressed, There’s not much to show what it looks like. At this period of time we are unable to give an update, but the game is still in development.”

The Last Guardian has been a long time in the works and at this point I don’t know if I would get my hopes up that the game will be released on the PS3. I actually believe there is a better chance that the game will be a next generation Sony console title than a current one because apparently they are still “having issues”.

I just hope this doesn’t turn out to be another Duke Nukem Forever incident, where we spend all this time waiting for the game and when we finally get it, the game turns out to be terrible. There has been just so much turmoil surrounding the game, with the executive producer leaving the development, and then the main man behind Team ICO Fumito Ueda leaving Sony. Although he did say he would help finish the project, however I don’t know how long he is willing to stay considering the development of The Last Guardian seems to be never ending.

Regardless I do hope the game comes out but at this point who knows when that will be. Are any of you still waiting for The Last Guardian to come out or have you moved on and assume the game is never coming out.
