Torchlight was originally released way back in 2009 for Windows and more recently 2011 for Xbox Live Arcade. It was a commercial and critical success, selling over a million copies.  Ever since then people have been clamoring for a sequel, which has been in development now for what seems like forever. Well today we have a small update from Torchlight II developers Runic Games about how the progress on the game is going.

Apparently since the closed beta Runic Games has been working on polishing the game, but will still give no firm time frame for a release date. Taking a Valve approach of the game is done when it is done Runic Games went on to make the statement:

“[We're not] all twiddling our thumbs behind our desks,” he said. “Nor are we feverishly polishing the doorknobs while the house is yet to be built.”

However, in a blog post on the games official forum Runic head Travis Baldree confirmed that most if not all the game content was in there from beginning to end. They are right now tweaking things such as skill sets:

“Skills are made available for investment by level ( just as they were in the tree ), but their unlock level is no longer determined by vertical positioning in the tree, which gives us more flexibility to place them where we want them. In addition, you receive specific bonuses to each skill ( apart from standard investment bonuses ) at every 5 point mark, or tier, which are hopefully a good enticement to continue investing in a skill.”

Torchlight II was suppose to be released in 2011 but was delayed until 2012, but at this point there is no guaranteeing the game will be released this year. I would have to say Torchlight II is one of my most anticipated games, and it will be interesting to see how well the game sells considering the hype Torchlight II has generated has gone through the roof.

How many of you have Torchlight II as one of your most anticipated games? Are there any converts out there who were turned off by Activision/Blizzards’ Diablo III release and will get all your dungeon crawling needs from Torchlight II?
