Over the weekend during Comic-Con a little screenshot started circulating the web that showed Metal Gear Solid 5 title screen. Nothing was confirmed but Konami was in on the fun by tweeting: ”Fake or real, we love a bit of speculation! #ogre #mgs5,”. However, later earlier today Konami squashed all the Metal Gear Solid fans hopes by tweeting that the picture was indeed fake:
“Seriously, just in case the #pinch #salt hashtags weren’t enough – the chap who claims to have set up the fake rumours has been in touch,”
The rumor actually had some validity to it as Hideo Kojima was at Comic-Con, and he was apparently showing off something behind closed doors. Even Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski got to take a look at Kojima’s next project as he tweeted:
“Just got pulled into a back room at Comic Con by @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN and showed some crazy new secret stuff. Wow.”
There is no confirmation as to what was being shown off, most likely it was Project Ogre, the next announced project from Hideo Kojima. Of which we know absolutely nothing, we don’t even know if the game will be released on current consoles or will be released on next generation consoles. The only thing we do know about the game is that it will run on a new engine that is called Fox Engine.
Kojima has in the past mentioned Metal Gear Solid 5, but has basically confirmed nothing either way. Project Ogre could actually be code name for Metal Gear Solid 5 but that is all speculation. Considering that Kojima has said that Project Ogre is something different from anything else he has done in the past it seems unlikely.
Either way I don’t see either Metal Gear Solid 5 or Project Ogre being released for current consoles, I hope I am wrong but the fact we have heard nothing about either title leads me to believe that one or both projects may be PS4 launch titles. Then again this is all speculation and hopefully we will hear more at Tokyo Game Show later this year in September.
What would you like to hear Kojima announce, Metal Gear Solid 5, or are you curious to see what Project Ogre is?
