Sony has always treated indie devs well, with the company pretty much catering the PS4’s design with the developers in mind. Sony doesn’t want to make distinctions between the game creators it delas with, be they tiny indie developers or mega-publishers like Activision, EA and Ubisoft. SCE Europe’s publisher and developer relations boss Agostino Simonetta gave a talk at Develop Conference in Brighton, as reported by Joystiq, stating Sony’s intent to level the playing field for all game companies and devs.
“Every single individual developer is a publisher as far as we’re concerned,” he said. “We don’t separate, we don’t segregate indies from traditional publishers.” Simonetta said Sony is enacting an open door policy at its European offices, with all indies welcome to come to London for a chat about their games. “For us, it’s key that each and every one of the companies working on PlayStation can come and talk to us at any time they want or need,” he said.
On PlayStation 4, all self-published indies will have control over release date, and will be offered promo opportunities to give their game more exposure, by posting on the Playstation Blog and various social media channels. It all depends on the quality of the game submitted, but it’s still nice to know.
