People might remember that a year or so before Borderlands released it had a much more realistic look to it. But Gearbox felt that the realistic style for the game wasn’t right and went back and changed the look of the game to what it is now a cell-shaded world that differentiates itself from the rest of the realistic shooters on the market.

Well apparently Gearbox has had another change of heart as Brothers in Arms Furious 4 has apparently “evolved” in a similar fashion to Borderlands. According to Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford Brothers in Arms Furious 4 won’t be coming out anytime soon because even though development on the game has been going great, their new evolution of the game will take time to complete.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford had this to say:

“I’m looking forward to being able to talk about Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 soon,” ”The game has evolved, I think people are going to be surprised by what they’ll see, and it’s still evolving. One of the reasons why we’re not talking about it now is that it’s evolving and we need to make further changes before we can start talking about it.”

Pitchford went on to say that the game will not make it’s intended release date of 2012 and chances are it will likely be released sometime next year. There were rumors earlier this year that the game had been cancelled when a trademark for the game was denied, but according to Pitchford that was because they filed a duel trademark and are now filing an individual one.

Finally Pitchford went on to talk about the next time we might see or hear about the game and said:

“I might come around to talk about Furious Four between the releases of Borderlands 2 and Aliens: Colonial Marines, but certainly I won’t before the release of Borderlands 2.”

One of the reasons for the change is likely the fact that after the initial trailer for the game was shown off there was something of a backlash against the game because it was such a departure from the original Brothers in Arms games. Initially the game was scheduled to be a co-op game set at the end of World War II, with people making comparisons to Inglorious Bastards. How much the game still resembles the first trailer remains to be seen after this announcement that the game has “evolved”.

How many of you liked the new look of Brothers in Arms Furious 4, or did you hate it because it looked nothing like previous Brothers in Arms games?
