Masahiro Sakurai, director of the Super Smash Bros. series, had a recent interview with Now Gamer explaining the differences between the Wii U and 3DS versions of the newest iteration.
He said that all of the same characters will be available in both versions, because the team didn’t want any fans to feel left out. He noted that both versions will look excellent visually, but the Wii U version will include ”increased fidelity and detail”–something we all could have guessed.
Sakurai also mentioned that there are limitations when importing stages from previous instalment, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, into the new game. “If we did do that [include stages from Brawl] stuff that was on Wii would have to be altered to be put on a 3DS. You’d have to make some tweaks. Whether or not you’d do that and still do those justice remains to be seen. We’re going to have to look at that.”
Both versions of the yet unofficially titled new Super Smash Bros. game will release in 2014.
