Yesterday we have reported the first details on the upcoming Xbox One launch title Killer Instinct, the reboot of the fighting game developed by Rare and released on Nintendo SNES years ago.
While the original was indeed Rare’s creature, the reboot will not be developed by them: Microsoft has confirmed that Rare is currently busing developing Kinect Sports Rival for Xbox One and that Killer Instinct will be developed by Double Helix Games, the team behind Front Mission Evolved and Battleship.
Killer Instinct is going to be available as a digital only day one Xbox One release. The game is going to be a free to play title: players will only be able to use Jago as a free character. To use the other characters, newcomers and returning characters both, players will have to buy them. The price for each character has yet to be revealed.
From what we can understand, the game will use a more comic book inspired art style and be as over the top as the original release was. The game is also going to be pretty easy to pick up for newcomers and veterans alike, with a few flashy combo attacks that can be used without too many complicated motions.
