After weeks of intense competition between the top eight League of Legends team in North America, the playoffs have finally begun. Six of the eight teams were able to advance, including Good Game University, Dignitas, Counter Logic Gaming, Vulcan, Curse, and Team Solo Mid. Day one kicked off the playoffs with the teams ranked third through sixth fighting for the rights to stay in the LCS.
The first series of the day was between the third seeded Dignitas and the sixth seeded Good Game University. Dignitas was the favorite by a large mark, with a record of 3-1 this season against GGU. Furthermore, 85% of fans who voted for the winner online said they would be the victor. Good Game University did not look phased by these odds, however, and they were able to barely edge out a win in the first game of the series. Dignitas came back in the second game and won in a convincing manner, but in a shocking upset, Good Game University won the final game. With the win, they earn the right to play tomorrow against the second seeded Curse.
The second series of the day was between Counter Logic Gaming and Vulcan, who were seeded 4th and 5th respectively. Though, Counter Logic Gaming was still a favorite, they were not as heavily favorited as Dignitas in the last series, as both teams were relatively even record wise. Furthermore, they both split their games this season 2-2. In the first game, Vulcan win in a convincing manner, yet Counter Logic Gaming was able to come back and win in an equally impressive game two. This brought the series to an all important game three, in which Vulcan won in another convincing manner, earning the right to play against Team Solo Mid tomorrow.
THe first day of the LCS Spring Playoffs was nothing short of spectacular. Both teams that won, Good Game University and Vulcan, were the definite underdogs, yet were able to win in epic three game series. This means that Counter Logic Gaming and Dignitas will need to play in the Summer Promotion Tournament to re-qualify for the LCS again this summer. As for Good Game University and Vulcan, it will be exciting to see them continue their run in the playoffs next week against Curse and Team Solo Mid.
