If you were watching Ubisoft’s conference at E3, then you are probably one amongst many who were excited for their surprise reveal that stole the show: Watch Dogs. Well, some new details about the multiplayer of the game have arisen from interviews with Dominic Guay after their E3 conference.
Now, if you watched the trailer all the way to the end, then you’ll have noticed what appeared to be a camera shift from the main character, Aiden Pearce, to a mysterious character called Bixel_44.
I bet you didn’t know that Bixel wasn’t controlled by the main character, but by a second player who had “hacked into” that world. Guay confirmed the new multiplayer element, simply stating that “Online is in the DNA of Watch Dogs.”
Ubisoft have editted out those final moments containing the second player in the trailer that they have released since the live presentation, but according to Guay; both players were playing the game and were pursing different objectives but their paths happened to cross each other.
We don’t know just how this world hopping mechanic works or how it’s going to work, but it’s hard to say that it’s not a brilliant idea. It could be an all new kind of co-operative play that we’re looking at.
“We definitely want to blend in multiplayer online and single player in ways that haven’t been done before,” said Guay.
This is all well and good, but what does it mean for Watch Dogs? Are we looking at a lite version of MMO gameplay, or a kind of co-operative gameplay that hasn’t been seen before?
