Microsoft kicked off their E3 conference today by jumping straight into a trailer for the highly anticipated Halo 4, the first game in 343 Studio’s Reclaimer trilogy.

This was the first demo to see Master Chief actually on the planet as well as show off gameplay and new features. A completely redesigned HUD which is reminiscent of Samus Aran’s HUD from the Metroid Prime trilogy is introduced straight away.

It doesn’t take long to show off the enemies, with the Covenant making a return as well as new Forerunner enemies, marking the appearance of Forerunners (Or at least their constructs) in the Halo video games at last.

Covenant foot troops are shown off, as well as what appears to be Sentinels, and some new enemies in the form of Forerunner AI Constructs. Most interestingly is that Elites are seen with the Covenant again.

Graphically, Halo 4 is already looking absolutely stunning. It seems that 343 Studios are really looking to push the Xbox 360 to its limits and showcase some of the things that can be done with current available hardware, rather than focussing on next-gen like a number of developers are doing.

Not many plot elements are hinted at, but a new UNSC ship crash lands on the planet not long after Master Chief, and the depths of Cortana’s AI Rampancy look to be explored in-depth later on in the game.

For as much as we now know about Halo 4, there’s still so many unanswered questions. What are the UNSC doing that far out in space? How long has it been since Chief went to sleep? Why are the Sanghelli/Elites back with the Covenant? What exactly are all the unexplained enemies? Who is the mysterious voice at the end of the video?
