It seems that people’s perspectives or feelings towards women in gaming are starting to become a lot more apparent, with big games having leading women, like Tomb Raider, Remember Me, and even Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite can be classified a leading female protagonist. It seems that an industry insider also feels the that women in gaming are starting to become a bigger part of the video game community, bigger than ever before. A narrative writer for Microsoft Studios, Tom Abernathy, has even went as far as saying that women are the new core of gaming, and he says that more games that include more women ail make for better games in the end.
“Our audience is leaving us behind,” Abernathy said. “The world is changing, it has already changed, and we have not been doing a very good job of keeping up with it.” He continued, “Women are not a small special market on the fringe of the core,” Abernathy said. “Women are the new core.”
I really believe what he says is true, he made some good points, and it seems that a lot of what he says is coming to fruition. Will have to see if the industry adjusts to the new trends, or will they just ignore them?
