Star Wars: The Old Republic has seen a spike in activity since it went free-to-play a while ago, as BioWare’s massive multiplayer online game that received critical acclaim but wasn’t able to pull in the subscription numbers that they may have liked got some new life breathed into it. There is about to be even more new life breathed into the game as the first major expansion pack for the game, Rise of the Hutt Cartel, has been dated for release and it is coming quickly.
The free-to-play option was announced in July of last year and finally went live in November, with Star Wars: The Old Republic losing subscribers on a steady basis until that point. Making the game free-to-play might have upset some of the customers who initially paid for the game and for the subscriptions, but the influx of new players was enough to keep the game alive. Now, finally, there will be a new expansion pack detailing the rise of the Hutt family into its role of prominence in the galaxy.
There aren’t a ton of details about it, but there has been a lot of work put into the expansion, which has been given a date of April 14th. So prepare yourself because in just a few short weeks you’ll have even more of the galaxy to explore.
