When Saints Row 4 was announced late last week, a lot of people didn’t realize that the Saints Row 4 release date was so close to GTA V’s. Saints Row 4 is scheduled to release on August 20, and with GTA V coming out just under a month from it, the two games may end up competing with one another. Even though they’re a few weeks apart, the two games have always been compared to one another, ever since the first Saints Row came out. Apparently, the close release dates didn’t affect Volition at all, they don’t seem to be too worried about one of the biggest games this generation.
“Yeah, it’s a big one, and we talk about it a lot,” Volition producer Jim Boone told Eurogamer. “Obviously when they announced their date and it was so close to us – that was an interesting phenomenon. But honestly, the way that we tend to look at it is that here’s this huge game that’s coming out at the same time and it’s going to sell a tonne. We know that, and it’s unfortunate from that standpoint.”
He continued, “The genre’s matured enough where you can have all these different styles and still be an open world game and be different. So I look at GTA 5 and think there’s this massive game coming out, but I don’t think with our superpowers and alien invasions that no-one will be comparing us to them.”
