With Battlefield 4 taking up a lot of the gaming media’s headlines over the last few days it comes at no surprise that its mortal enemy, Call of Duty, has some information emerging now. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has been rumored for quite a while and makes perfect sense in the way that Activision has been releasing Call of Duty games, alternating between Infinity Ward and Treyarch each year. It looks like that tradition will indeed continue with the restructured and hopefully stable Infinity Ward being the driving force behind the next Call of Duty game, only the title might take you by surprise.
The title that is being reported for the next Call of Duty game is no Modern Warfare 4, but Call of Duty: Ghosts. Yes, Ghosts. It will follow in the same vein as the Modern Warfare and Black Ops games and turn to a bit of a messy near-future, chock full of modern weaponry — not advanced weaponry — which is due to some terrible calamity. There will be some changes into the core gameplay, enough to push the series forward a bit, and apparently no Spec Ops this time around, just “something new.” The big deal so far is that the word has come down that it will launch on the PC as well as Next-Gen consoles (PlayStation 4, Xbox 720) and not the current generation.
If true, it seems like a risky move for a series known to sell a ton of copies, but it could be a way for console makers to push some new consoles out this holiday season. Expect an announcement about Call of Duty: Ghosts around May 1st.
