According to a Gears of War writer, the game is just way too violent. Yeah, I know you all can see the irony in this story. In an interview with the New Yorker, Gears of War writer Tom Bissell discussed how he feels that games nowadays are over-saturated in violence. He also stated that video games shouldn’t be left out of the age old violent video game debate, the one debate that everybody loathes.
“I’ve been asked a few times to weigh in on the ‘violent video games’ debate, but I hesitate to because I feel like the N.R.A. set a trap by shining a spotlight on video games,” Bissell said. “Which isn’t to say that I think that games are entirely blameless. Games, generally speaking, are probably way too violent.” This is pretty odd coming from a Gears of War writer, a game that would be right at the top of the video games debate.
Since the tragedy at Newtown, violence in video games has been getting a lot more negative press, with families everywhere blaming video games for the tragedy. This comes after people found out that the shooter was a “deranged” gamer, and that obviously didn’t help our cause in any way.
