2013 is going to be the year of Luigi: Mario’s brother and faithful companion will finally be in the spotlight, with a few releases where he’s going to be the true main character. Luigi’s Mansion 2: Dark Moon will release soon on 3DS and Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario’s creator, has explained in an interview with Gametrailers TV why the game has been developed on 3DS.
The first Luigi’s Mansion game was released as a Gamecube launch game and it would have been almost natural to develop the sequel on another home console. Miyamoto explains that, even when developing the first game, the team wanted to see the game’s visuals on a 3D screen.
At the time the team did indeed experiment with a 3D monitor and truly loved the outcome: developing the sequel on 3DS was a natural choice, given what Miyamoto and his team really wanted for the series.
Developing Luigi’s Mansion 2 on 3DS allowed Miyamoto to really create a connection between the two games and finally let players experience the Luigi’s Mansion gameplay the way the team envisioned when the first game was in development.
Luigi’s Mansion 2: Dark Moon will release on March 24 in North America and on March 28 in Europe.
