Yearly fatigue is something that gamers know all-too-well, especially with series that tend to pump out a new iteration every year with only minor tweaks here and there. I’ll be extremely honest when I say that there have been a few times over the past few years where I’ve been less-than-excited about a new Assassin’s Creed title. A few of them have sat around for the better part of a year before I finally got around to playing them. The last game in the series, Assassin’s Creed III, proved at times to be an exercise in tedium with flat characters, less dynamic of an area to explore and more menial side tasks than ever before.
Ubisoft promises that with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag that they will look to keep the series fresh and feeling new through all of the new additions. Jean Guesdon, the Creative Director of the series, feels like they’ve beaten the annual fatigue through fresh and creative ideas and that Black Flag will bring in more big ideas to keep the series feeling fresh but still an Assassin’s Creed game. No doubt that this game looks exciting, but sometimes screenshots and videos don’t tell the whole story. I guess we’ll all see when the game is released.
