The developer of the small cult hit, Jetpack Joyride, is already starting work on a number of new titles. Halfbrick Studios, the studio behind wildly addictive games like Fruit Ninja and the aforementioned Jetpack Joyride, recently announced that they plan on releasing eight games in 2013. They had a relatively quiet last year, where they spent most of their time porting their popular games over to other platforms. Jetpack Joyride really flourished when the company ported it over to the PSN, as a bigger fan base got a chance to play the game for themselves.
“We are in a fortunate position,” Larsen stated in an interview with Polygon. “If we don’t think a game is ready, we don’t have a publisher breathing down our necks. We don’t have investors who say ‘You’re money’s running out.’ We can do whatever we want. The longer we take, the more the mobile industry changes. It’s a completely different beast from the way it was a year ago,” Larsen said. I’m anxious to see what the studio is creating. You have to think that the games will be smaller, bite sized titles. You can’t expect a small development team to put out eight meaty games, but it’s still going to be interesting to see what they do.
