For the second time in as many weeks, Square Enix has trademarked something that deals with the Deus Ex franchise. Last week Square Enix trademarked something called Deus Ex: Human Defiance. This week Square Enix trademarked and registered domains relating to something called Deus Ex: The Fall.
There are rumors going around that Deus Ex: Human Defiance might actually have something to do with the movie that is in the works based on the Deus Ex franchise. Apparently CBS Films, the people developing the Deus Ex movie registered some domain names relating to Deus Ex: Human Defiance.
As for Deus Ex: The Fall both the trademarks and domain registrations were made by Square Enix Europe. So it is more likely Deus Ex: The Fall has something to do with future game iterations of the franchise. However, with yesterday’s announcement that Eidos Montreal, developers of Deus Ex: Human Revolution are currently working on Thief; the next game in the franchise may be a few years off.
Eidos Montreal have to finish up Thief and are supposedly working on another unannounced title, so once those games are finished they would likely begin work on the next Deus Ex game. So the bad news of all this, Square Enix may have trademarked the name of the next Deus Ex game but we may not see Deus Ex: The Fall for a few years.
