Earlier today there were rumors floating around that Dead Space 4 had been cancelled and the future of the franchise was looking a little rocky. However, EA and members of the Dead Space development team have denied these rumors. Dino Ignacio one of the people on the Dead Space 3 development team reported on twitter that the death of the franchise has been exaggerated.
Another Dead Space developer took to NeoGAF to also call the rumored demise of the franchise “completely false”. Even EA came out and has denied these rumors according to Gamasutra, saying that the death of Dead Space is “patently false”.
So it looks like Dead Space lives to see another day. But this is all subject to change, who knows once the official sales figures come in if EA will still be happy about the franchise in the long run. Not to mention, this is a rumor that is hard to deny because we may not see another Dead Space game for years, EA can quietly shelve the franchise without anyone knowing. And that would be better for their bottom line than coming out and saying directly they are disappointed with the franchise and are cancelling future iterations of the series.
EA has denied the rumor for now but they were the ones who came out and said that if the franchise didn’t sell five million copies they would probably not make another Dead Space game; so at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if the franchise was canned or continued.
