Rumor: New Xbox 720 Information

Now that some of the Playstation 4 features have been officially unveiled, it’s time for Microsoft to show its new console and what it can do to match all the innovative elements Sony has planned for its new console. Microsoft is still keeping the console to itself and there’s not even an announcement for a possible reveal coming before this year’s E3: both next gen consoles will surely be present.

Some more rumors have surfaced this morning regarding the new Xbox 720: apparently Microsoft is closely monitoring the situation as not to let anything come out before the official reveal but something may have indeed slipped past them. The new console will obviously be at the center of Microsft’s booth at the E3: featuring almost triple processing power than its predecessor, the console will be available in two different versions. The basic Arcade version will feature a 320 GB Hard Disk while the Pro version will feature a 500 GB Hard Disk, with an optional 1 Terabyte Hard Disk available for purchase as soon as the console launches.

Some more rumors also state that Microsoft won’t be using Blue Ray technology, despite some earlier statements, and the Xbox Smartglass app will have an even more central role. No news about a possible Kinect 2.0 or immersive technology.

It would be a monumentally stupid decision not to have a blu-ray drive, it is the new standard for discs, and now many faster than first blu-ray drives. HD-DVD has been an epic fail and embarrassment for Microsoft. Also if the X720 is digital only, expect no retailer in the world to support it as the retailers themselves (Gamestop, GAME, etc,,,) will get no business form boxed games, in fact they will all promote the PS4 instead, PS4 would then win easy. I own both X360 and PS3, I am likely to get a PS4 at launch as the online services are free, unlike £50 per year for Xbox.

  The Blu-Ray format is owned by Sony. Ergo, any move on Microsoft’s part to incorporate a Blu-Ray drive into the next gen Xbox would involve making a deal with its rival company. Its highly unlikely that would happen but not impossible. A more likely scenario is that media will mostly be downloadable; games that are bigger than say 4 standard DVD disks would be digital only. I don’t expect It’ll impact hardcore fans of the console. But MS is pushing all the wrong features. I mean KINECT!? Seriously I don’t freakin believe that such a huge and financially shrewd company would make such a stupid move. AND FUCK SOCIAL GAMING! We don’t need to be more social we need well developed games that are FUN!

    Blu-Ray is not owned by Sony. Sony is a 3rd party retailer of Blu-Ray. Sony receives commission rates based on how much they promote BR usage. Also, Sony makes PCs with MANY Microsoft parts in them. Sony has been “making deals” with their rival company for years. But i totally agree, fuck Kinect.

      Sony is a founding member of the Blu-Ray Disc Association (BDA), and probably the biggest investor and promoter of it’s technology on the board. Microsoft, however, is NOT a member of said board, Additionally, it requires a UNANIMOUS vote among ALL board members to make any changes to Blu-Ray distribution, (including allowing any new companies to have access to it). Seeing as how Microsoft is Sony’s rival and Sony sits on the board, Microsoft has exactly ZERO chances of incorporating it into the new xbox. I knew the “rumors” of the new xbox having Blu-Ray capability were bullshit the moment I first heard them …..

  I agree… they should put in blu ray, but the way Microsoft has been doing things, they will end up not doing it.. they have some really bad managers controlling their product line right now. The RT tablet is one reason that Microsoft will be firing people in the near future and trying to think of something good to do again.

  Xbox Live is far superior than Playstation Network, any true gaming is on live and it wont get hacked like playstation does every few years hundreds of thousands accounts hacked and consoles hacked so gaming isnt fair any true gamer will pay for live over shitty ps networt faggit

  Anyone who is saying that Xbox Live is far superior than PSN and that might be true but still it is unfair as well too cos it doesn’t fit in the same topic. To be fair i can say this cos it is true and right way of saying it. PS+ is way more far superior, much greater and better than Xbox Live.         I’m a dentist and I don’t own a gaming pc but do own a ps3 and 360. Its not because I can’t afford it, the fact is because I’m smarter then you. Why keep investing money into a pc just to play a new game when you can have similar experiences with a console without the additional cost to upgrade your pc? Pc is a big hassle, why should i be stupid and optimize a pc to play a game when some one else can optimize it for me? That’s why consoles are a much smarter investment for gaming. If you spent $800 or more on a pc just to play a game, then you’re a dumbass.

Plus xbox is supposed to be getting rid of used gaming on their console, there’s going to be a one time activation code on their games, So i guess if your data ever gets corrupted you’re just screwed. Microsoft is really zuneing things up with the new xbox.

Without a bluray drive, their games market will have to be DLC only … this would kill the used games market, along with a large share of their gamers who rely on discount games … unless if they’re going to employ an enforced price drop over time scheme for all their games, I don’t see this being a successful console …

Blue ray blows, Sony has to push it their investment init is huge but it just isn’t a main stream product, they constantly flog dead horses Mini disc, Betamax (yes better than VHS I know) Sony fan boys are worse than Apple fan boys and will pay vast sums for failed tech years after it should have been retired (Yes I do have a DAT player).
Really it’s the 21st century and you want to wait for a plastic disc to spin up and a laser on a worm gear to track across its surface (As opposed to a spinning disc with a pivot arm, but they do spin quicker and helical scan pattern helps) gotta be a hybrid solid state HDD and streaming. Both Sony and MS want to kill off the resellers market for games Sony already tried it with music Cd’s and DVD so they are both as bad if one tries it the other will follow.
