The fine folks at VGLeaks are at it again, this time with some details about the upcoming Xbox 720, codenamed Durango. We’ve heard some rumors about what the Xbox 720 will be packing underneath the hood for horsepower, but we have still been relatively left out in the dark when it comes to more concrete details. According to this latest leak we may see the Xbox 720 packing 8 x64 cores under the hood which will be spread over two separate CPU units. Each core will run a single thread at 1.6 GHz with each set of 4 cores sharing a 2 MB L2 cache.
If you are curious as to what this exactly means for raw power and for ease-of-use, this means that the Xbox 720 will share architecture with performance PCs that are on the market right now and should be a breeze to develop for. Developers will be able to focus on building you the best game possible and not dealing with micro-actions or whatever kind of nonsense goes with that. I’m sure that we’ll see a lot of comparisons between the Xbox 720 and the PlayStation 4, with many debating that PS4’s purported 8-core chipset will be vastly different than the Xbox 720’s two 4-core chips, but for now, we just don’t know.
