According to rumors EA and Microsoft are set to announce a partnership at the supposed Microsoft event in April. Apparently Microsoft and EA will be teaming up to announce some exclusive content for the next generation Microsoft console. What that content will be is still unknown but speculation is that it will be some timed exclusive DLC or game.
As EA does not do exclusive games the content will likely only be a timed exclusive or possibly some exclusive DLC. The thinking is that it might have something to do with timed exclusive Battlefield 4 content, since Sony and the PS3 had timed Battlefield 3 exclusive DLC. However, with the recent news that EA wants to include microtransactions to every game I don’t know if now is the best time to get into bed with EA. The fact is today’s announcement was not well received to say the least, nor should it be.
But this deal will make even more sense for EA if the other rumors are true about the next gen Microsoft console not playing used games. It would make sense in EA’s mind to side with the console that doesn’t play used games because they are company built on only making profit.
Microsoft on the other hand might not want to side with EA the way things are going for them, because right now the only games that EA has that are really making them money are the Battlefield series, Madden, and FIFA. And truth be told with today’s announcement about microtransactions in every game, going so far as to say “…pay for things along the way; to get to a higher level,” I don’t think people will be too eager to run out and buy the next EA game. Still this is all just a rumor but it is a very plausible rumor, and one I would probably be more surprised if it didn’t happen.
