Sony and Blizzard Entertainment has entered into a “strategic partnership,” where they will be bringing Diablo 3 to the PS3 and PS4. The company’s senior vice president, story and franchise development Chris Metzen, announced the big news today, and although the word exclusive never came up, they did say that this was a Sony only partnership. I’m sure that most people didn’t expect the game to be released for the PS4, and the fact that it’s coming to the PS3 as well is even more shocking. Metzen also mentioned that the PS3 version was already up and running, and that it looks great and runs really well.
The game has been fully customized to run on consoles, and it will have a new local 4 player co-op mode to play with three other buddies. If you don’t have any local friends, the mode will be online as well, so don’t worry if you live in a rural area. The RPG’s user interface, controls, inventory system, customization, and player avatar control have all be revamped for the PS4. The new control system will either make or break the game, we’ll have to wait to get our hands on it to see if it actually works well. You can expect to get hands on time with the game at Pax East in March.
