It took Atlus a really long time to decide developing the new numbered entry of the long running Shin Megami Tensei series but the game is finally being developed on 3DS: Shin Megami Tensei IV will be improving on a lot of the series’ staples, adding some new options which will allow newbies to enjoy the game, which is probably gonna be as brutally difficult as the other games of the series.
Shin Megami Tensei IV builds upon the gameplay idea introduced in Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, released some time ago on DS: the battles are all in first person view and the battle system will be the Press Turn system players have come to know so well thanks to the many spin offs released in these years since Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne. Exploiting enemy weaknesses will net players extra turns and other advantages. In an effort to balance this mechanic a bit more, Atlus will be adding the smirking system which allows both player characters and enemies to negate any weakness hit and buff the characters’ stats temporarily.
The smirking won’t be the only new thing which will help newcomers of the series: Atlus will be adding multiple difficulty levels to the game which can be switched at anytime during gameplay. Save points have also been removed since players will be able to save anytime they wish, anywhere.
Shin Megami Tensei is set for a generic 2013 release on 3DS.
