Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has just informed his investors that the developer is planning a brand new Assassin’s Creed release in the 2014 fiscal year, according to CVG.

Guillemot did not offer many details regarding the game, but he did confirm that it will introduce a brand new protagonist and a new time period. It will be developed across several of Ubisoft’s global development studios.

Earlier we reported that Assassin’s Creed III shipped over 12 million units. The announcement of a new Assassin’s Creed game was made at this same investor presentation. It’s likely that we can expect the game to be showed off at E3 in a few months.

The 2014 fiscal year is from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014, meaning the game could release anywhere between that time. While fans are now accustomed to a yearly release, it’s always possible that we may not see the new Assassin’s Creed come Christmas 2013.

My guess is that Ubisoft is preparing for the next generation of consoles; after more rumours and news of the Next Xbox and PS4 are appearing more than ever lately, it would make sense for the company to make plans to jump ship. It may become a launch title for both/either systems.
