Since the Saints Row franchise and its’ developers were sold to Koch Media and Deep Silver we have heard nothing about when to expect the next game in the franchise. However, today there are rumors flying around that Saints Row 4 might be much closer to release than initially thought.

According to Chris Stockman, design director on the original Saints Row, the game is being prepped for an August 2013 release on current generation consoles. Stockman tweeted out: ”the word around the campfire is SR4 is shipping on current gen consoles in late August.”

Deep Silver has only come out and said that they are still working on “timing” with Volition and that they are not ready to formally announce a release date or what consoles the game will be released on. Saints Row 4 has been in development since the release of Saints Row: The Third, so if Volition is running off a normal development cycle of two years then it would not be crazy to think Saints Row 4 would be released this year.

However, with the buyout you would think that it would cause at least a slight delay in the development of the game. If the game is going to be released in August (which it would need to be now that GTA V is coming in September) chances are Volition and Deep Silver will have to show the game off in the very near future; so hopefully Volition and Deep Silver will be showing the game off soon.
