There’s been rumour circulating for a couple of weeks now that gift cards for Valve’s PC distribution platform, Steam, would be coming to GameStop at some point in the near future. Those rumours have since been confirmed by GameStop.
Steve Nix, the General Manager of Digital Distribution for Gamestop said the following in an interview:
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Valve on this new initiative. This gives even more options to customers now that they can put money in their Steam Wallet using cash, gift cards or trade credits through our convenient neighbourhood locations.”
There are many people who are surprised to hear of this team-up. It’s no secret that Steam being an all-digital distribution platform is one of the major figures on the side of killing-off used games. GameStop is one of the biggest proponents of used games sales in the industry, but it’s not without reason that they decided to team up with Valve for this.
It’s hard to argue against the point that Valve and Steam dominate the PC gaming sector. They’re not going anywhere any time soon either. So, instead of trying to tear the giant down, GameStop are joining up with the giant.
So, very soon you will be seeing these Steam Wallet codes right at your local GameStop, to be redeemed like any MSPoint card.
These codes will be available from most if not all GameStops and they will only be available in $20 and $50 denominations.
